Kuumba Kids

The Kuumba Kids program is an intensive training academy for male and female youth ages 6-17 in African, ballet, tap, and jazz dance, music, other creative activities and life skills development. Arts professionals carry out the arts component of the Kuumba Kids program and other professionals work with the youth in the areas of health and hygiene, etiquette and other basic skills.

Kuumba House is geographically located in Houston ’s Third Ward community. Kuumba Kids are recruited from the surrounding neighborhoods and referred by other participants. No prior dance experience is required. There are no program fees; however, parents must participate as chaperones and in other volunteer capacities for their child(ren) to participate. Program goals include an international culture-sharing trip to either a continental African country or countries where the African influence is strongly evident in the indigenous culture.
